- Match memory speed and rank to the qualified list for the server, and populate every channel evenly. Mixed sizes cost bandwidth.
- Choose SSD endurance by write load: about 1 DWPD for read-heavy work, 3 DWPD or more for write-heavy databases and caches.
- Form factor and interface must match the backplane: U.2, E3.S or E1.L for NVMe, and SATA or SAS for hard drives.
- For arrays, order drives and spares together so the whole set is consistent.
